Service Description

Is there is a difference between therapy and coaching? You bet there is! Coaching can achieve effective results using science and personalization in a short amount of time. Recovery does take time, but trauma coaching is usually done over a shorter time span than therapy. Coaching allows you to experience actual results in your quality of life that you can notice in shorter amounts of time than traditional talk therapy. Trauma coaching is also different than Life or other types of coaching because a trauma coach does take into account past traumas and how they have affected their clients in their present day. Other types of coaching look only at the present day/future with clients and don't identify the root of how a client's experience has been coloured by their past trauma(s). As a coach I educate my clients about: - the effects of trauma on your body and mind. - the neuroscience of trauma. - psychoeducation - somatic work - alternate modalities that may be helpful, whilst normalizing your reality. - relay how healing occurs & utilize S.M.A.R.T goals for specific growth. Using a 3-Phase trauma-informed framework, I assist my clients to slow down, get curious, identify the impact and determine the next steps. During the first phase, we work to create a safe and supportive environment for both emotional and physical safety. This is done by creating agreements that identify strategies that support the client’s ongoing emotional safety including plans for good and rocky times, mental health history reviews, identifying support systems and planning for the client’s connection to community resources. The second phase provides a space to pause, recognize and acknowledge the trauma. As a coach, I support my clients to recognize the impact of trauma on their everyday lives. Trauma often represents the place where many people have lost a part of themselves. By acknowledging trauma, I am able to assist clients to reconnect with lost parts of themselves. During Phase 3 I assist my clients to reclaim the power lost during the traumatic experience by acknowledging their resiliency and resourcefulness. “Resiliency is the capability to cope successfully in the face of significant change, adversity, or risk. While resourcefulness is the ability to deal promptly and skillfully in new situations or during difficulties.” (Stewart et al.,1991 as cited by Greene and Conrad, 2002).
